Developing and maintaining a high volume microsurgical practice takes many years of dedicated training. After receiving his undergraduate education at Wabash College, Dr. Schrepferman graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine with honors. He then completed a six-year urological surgery residency at the University of Iowa, where he first developed an interest and passion for the field of male reproductive medicine and vasectomy reversals under the tutelage of Dr. Jay Sandlow. He was then accepted into the prestigious fellowship training program of Dr. Larry Lipshultz, a full year devoted exclusively to the care of men with infertility and vasectomy reversals. Finally, he joined the private practice of the venerable Dr. Arnold Belker in Louisville, Kentucky, continuing a long standing tradition of advanced male fertility care in the city.
"When a couple contacts my practice, they are interested in adding a child to their family. It is one of the most important decisions they will make in their lives together. When the male partner needs a vasectomy reversal, sorting through the available treatment options can be overwhelming. My practice is dedicated to helping couples understand their options and assisting them throughout their journey in any way they desire. I want them to realize they are coming to one of the leading vasectomy reversal practices in the nation."
That's a commitment Dr. Shep works on every day. As the only fellowship-trained vasectomy reversal doctor in Kentucky, he employs cutting edge microsurgical techniques to generate consistently high success rates. He also works tirelessly to help advance the profession through a combination of clinical research and the teaching of young residents and fellows. He has accepted and currently holds three different academic teaching appointments: the University of Louisville Department of Urology, serving as the head of the senior level rotation at Jewish Hospital; the University of Louisville Department of Reproductive Endocrinology (female fertility), educating female fertility specialists in the field of male infertility and vasectomy reversals; and the University of Kentucky Department of Urology, hosting a visiting rotation for urologists in training. He has also authored a number of articles for both professional journals and local publications regarding vasectomy reversals, and he is regularly invited to speak on male fertility topics locally and nationally. He has a true passion for helping men achieve their family goals.
